The Smokey Eye In 6 Easy Steps!

I love makeup. It is one of my favorite things to do whenever I’m getting ready to head out the door. Whether it’s for a night out or a quick pit stop at the local coffee shop, I never leave the house without some coverage. I get a lot of complements on my eye makeup and because I do it all the time, it’s pretty much second nature to me. But I want to discuss particularly the smokey eye look. It’s popular, fun, sexy and much easier to do than you think!

It’s my go-to look for most of my formal social gatherings especially for evening wear. For a day look, I always opt for a more neutral tone and less coverage. You can create this sexy look without much hassle and I’m going to give you my personal tips on how to get it done right!makeup brushes

  • Always begin your makeup ritual with a freshly cleansed and moisturized face. Start by applying a neutral color to the entire eye lid. This color should be as close as possible to your natural skin tone. This will create a nice base.
  • Add a light grey shimmer eye shadow to the inner eye area going outwards up to the crease and not further. Also apply a small amount under the lower lash line. Soften with brush.
  • Trace the upper and lower lash line with a soft black pencil from inner corner of eye to end of lash line, don’t worry if you don’t make a perfect line. Gently soften the line with a small eye shadow brush. If you don’t have a small brush, a Q-Tip will do or simply use your ring finger.
  • Use a medium size brush and apply dark grey in the outer corners of the eye area working inwards. Create an arch shape just above the crease of the lid and blend downward. Be careful not to cover the entire eye area, we just want to emphasize the outer corners of the eye and add some height as well. Again, blend, blend, blend! When you do this, you create a smooth finish thus avoiding a patterned look. Your finished eye makeup should look like it naturally darkens outward and naturally lightens inward.
  • Highlight the brow bone area with a pale or light shade, no shimmer, again blending to keep all the colors smooth.
  • At this point you can attach your fake lashes if you want to achieve a diva look, I always do, or just pile on the mascara!
